We meet at crossroads in our life; Charles had just gotten over a long winded relationship and I was struggling after going through a divorce. We met through a mutual friend; Lucien Henderson with whom we would go dancing with on Friday nights in Huntington Beach, CA. What first drew me to Charles (besides his good looks) was the unconditional love that he has for his two sons and that he was looking for a woman who loves “the big man upstairs” and her family.
When Charles and I first started spending time together I distinctly remember his desire to find a church to go to on Sundays. I was raised in a strong Christian household, however I had “backslided” so I was interested in finding a church as well. As luck would have it, one of Charles friends dad was a pastor at a church and we decided to give it a try (and it has been our church home ever since). We now attend Greater Grace of Deliverance in Westminster, CA with our Pastor Charlie Wilkins and First Lady Rosie Wilkins. Charles and I both realized that having God in our lives was the piece to the puzzle of life that was missing from our life and previous relationships. When I started going to church with Charles I realized that although I had known Christ all my life that as an adult I had not accepted Him into my heart and soul. Charles and I both rededicated our lives to Christ at church and have been trying to do God’s will ever since.
Through our struggles in life, we turn to God in prayer as well as our family, friends and especially our church family who have been so supportive, encouraging and loving through every step in our relationship. What Charles and I enjoy most at our church is our couples ministry where we come together (engaged and married couples) and talk about different topics that couples face in this challenging world and how we can rely on God and His word to bring us through strenuous times. Our lives have changed in a sense; we do not go out dancing as often, or hardly at all (ask Lucien); but we enjoy the simple things in life; walking on the beach or around the neighborhood, watching Lakers games and having picnics in the park. Our most cherished time together is spent at church or reading the Bible together. God has blessed us with finding each other and has brought us back to Him with open arms. We look forward to spending our lives together and growing stronger together in faith. We genuinely cherish all your love and support.
1 Corinthians 13:13
And now these three remain; faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
