We first met at (funny to say) a bar/ lounge we both loved to go to (when we were single). It was located in Newark called the Relic. It is no longer around. It was in January of 2002. He saw me across the bar and bought me drink, walked over and said hello. That night, we danced, kissed, and began what is now known as Rick & Jen.
I had a feeling Rick was going to propose to me while we were on our Europe vacation this year (2008). He actually played some silly tricks on me while we were there. So he had some "secret weekend getaways" planned for us in October. I had no idea where we were going, when we were going, I just know something was up. But since Rick was always on the go, spontaneous, I wasn’t really thinking about it so much.
On the weekend on October 26th and 27th, we headed out to a surprise for me in Philipsburg, NJ. We visited some wine vineyards, walked the grounds, took pictures, tasted different wines, quite enjoyable. We then passed through a small quaint town and went antique shopping. We purchased some pretty cool things for our new home. We then went into Easton, PA. Rick had set up a bed in breakfast, which we both have never been to. Upon our arrival. Rick had set up a basket of welcome goodies (cheese, fruit, flowers, etc...). He also some surprise champagne for as well. This place is very romantic. We cuddled a bit, exchanged romantic glances and sipped champagne overlooking the neighborhood. We also attended a wine and cheese event downstairs in the hotel lobby.
Dinner was great, Rick set up a very romantic dinner at an Italian restaurant located not too far from the Hotel. It was at an old Victorian house, that was converted into this great, cozy restaurant. We had the room to ourselves, next to a fireplace, candle-lit, just me and him. The food was great, service was great as well. Towards the end of the meal, Rick gets up and says he needed to get something from his truck. So he comes back, and when he does, the owner puts the lights dim, the close off the side doors and now its just me and Rick. Rick asked me to get up and dance with him. He put together a little movie with pictures we have since we began dating until now. The song in the background was "Lady", by D'Angelo. I was very nervous, something was up! After the song, Rick gave me a card he made and at the end of the card, he got on his knee, and that’s when he proposed to me. I got very red in the face, and started to cry and I obviously said yes. Rick was very nervous too. He could barely say will you marry me. Pretty funny actually. I still don’t know what to do with my hand and finger. He got me what I wanted and more!!!
