Most of our family and friends know our story, but for those who don't the particulars it boils down to this. Shaun and I met at the Base Gym through mutual friends and eventually got together and started dating, we moved in together including the cat, Horus. Less than 6 months later, the girls moved in with us and 2 months later we got Jeffery, another cat. Instant family at light speed- the way both of us like to work.
We were able to declare common-law on Aug 19, 2005 something we chose to do because Shaun was slated to go to Afghanistan and in military-speak girl/boyfriends don't count. This fall, we finally have time for us to spend 10 mins together in the same room to get married.
We chose Oct 7th because it's my birthday and my Mom and Dad were married on my Dad's birthday and it is a family tradition I'd like to carry on. We will be getting married in Shilo at the yet-to-be-renamed combined Catholic and Protestant Church on Base in Shilo (formerly Our Lady of Shilo and St Barbara's respectively) by the 1RCHA Padre, Capt Dwayne Bos. We will have only our witnesses and Isabelle and Emily present, due to operational commitments and the chaos and uncertainty surrounding a military wedding.
Once we get back from the Honeymoon, depending upon field dates, we're going to have a party in Shilo (halfway between AB and ON) in either Dec 2006 or Jan 2007. Out here, they have this thing called the Wedding Social- we decided to have one, just after the wedding. Perfect for ski vacations! Don't worry we'll get everyone the info needed to find Shilo in the middle of the Manitoba prairie!
We, Shaun and Roberta and the girls truly appreciate all that everyone has done for us to get us togther, keep us together and accept the family that we are. We hope no one minds that we've asked for people to contribute to the honeymoon or the wedding social instead of physical gifts. We have already combined 2 households and with this being both our second marriages, we hope everyone understands that we really don't need things (PMQs are REALLY small). Thanks for understanding!
