Monica Acevedo & Samuel Bearfield lll
Location: Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas
Monica: My earliest memory of Sam Bearfield was in high-school (1985 - 1987). I didn't know anything about him except his name...SAM BEARFIELD and he played basketball and was a nice guy!! Oh yeah..every-time I saw him, he was smiling!!! It was $2 Margarita Tuesday at The Office Bar and Grill in Montclair, May 2008. A typical Tuesday, Erika and I at The Office sitting at the bar and a familiar face walks in and I say, kinda "by the way"...Hey, that's Sam Bearfield, as Sam and a date walks pass the bar. He hears me and smiles (just like high-school). Erika, knowing me so well and knowing I can't remember a name to save my life...looks up and asks....IS HE FAMOUS?? I say no but that is how I've always known him as..SAM BEARFIELD, I went to high-school with him!! She laughs!! Sam comes over and speaks, I introduce him and we have idle chit chat. We briefly talked about the last class reunion as well as classmates we kept in contact with. He suggested we exchange numbers to keep in contact....yeah, heard that before! He went back to his date and I continue to enjoy my $2 Margaritas!! I had no intentions of ever speaking to Sam again!! Two days later, I'm driving home and my phone rings...I look down and it says SAM BEARFIELD, I hit ignore. I immediately call Erika and say, why the heck is SAM BEARFIELD calling me. She laughs and say, ummmm cause you gave him your phone number. I say, but I didn't intent for him to call me. A couple days later, he texts me and say, he just wanted to say hello and we should get together and catch up. I responded, yes, we have to (didn't mean it). He called one more time before he stopped calling. THE PHONE CALL THAT CHANGED MY LIFE: Tuesday, May 27, 2008 - I am driving home from work (Erika had cancelled our weekly $2 Margarita Tuesdays) and my phone rings.....SAM BEARFIELD displayed on my phone. I answer this time and by the end of the conversation, he asked me out that night (hey, I figured it would be just a free meal). He was driving back from SC and we agreed to meet at 7:00 in Livingston so we could go to the Macaroni Grill. We talked and laughed and not wanting the night to end so we decided to go to the office. We stayed there til the bar closed. He walked me to my car, opened the door and FOLLOWED me home to make sure I got home safely. IT WAS THE BEST DATE I EVER HAD! He left me smiling and I haven't stopped smiling since. Every since that night, I can't remember Sam ever leaving my side. 2 1/2 weeks passed and Sam came over everyday (he stayed outside cause Dallas was home), we talked on the phone for hours at night. He told me on our first date, that he was a throw back (a man from the old school, that knows how to date and treat a woman). He opened doors, tells me everyday how beautiful I am, greets me first thing in the morning with a positive attitude. June 15th, we were down the street from my apt at The Ward's for a father's day cookout. We decided to walked up the street to my apt and was sitting on the porch. I told him that I think I was falling for him and he said, well, I am glad you said that (from my memory) cause i want you to be mine.
Funny looking back from the day we met, Sam had a bigger vision for us than I ever could have imagined. Yes, we started talking about getting married really early in our relationship but as lot of "new couples" talk about it, how would have thought it really was going to happen so fast without effort. From the beginning, Sam said he wanted to get married on September 24th....it's a day that Sam cherishes, his mom's Birthday (honor to the late Eleanor Bearfield). Knowing how much Sam's mother meant to him, that is something I would never deny him of. We also knew we wanted to go away and the first place we picked was St. Thomas. My sister, Antonia, did research on different places in St. Thomas. In May 2009, my sisters and I left to go to Las Vegas to see my dad, Toni called and asked what about Vegas. Seemed perfect since both Sam and I love to party and have a good time. Toni goes on to say how most of the hotels have beautiful packages and it is more reasonable for our guests to come to Vegas than St. Thomas. I called Sam to get his opinion and Sam told me he didn't care as long as I was his bride. So, Vegas was our spot and September 24th was our date. Sam and I decided on the Mandalay Bay Resort to have our wedding ceremony. Neither one of us wanted to do the whole "traditional" wedding but I did want a wedding party and we both wanted just to have our family and friends to come and have the time of their life! What better place than SIN CITY! I told Sam that we didn't have to do the whole "engagement" thing and I would be happy with just a wedding band presented to me at the wedding. So, what a wonderful surprise when Sam got down on one knee and proposed to me at my 40th Birthday Dinner. It was amazing and so romantic, it was just like SAM doing whatever he could to make me happy and to make me fall deeper in love with him. I have never been more surprise as I was that night and he made sure everything was perfect!! Although, I am still confused to who got engaged, me or my mother. My wedding colors were picked by my sister. We originally wanted to do an all white wedding but my sister showed us a picture with blue/brown and we fell in love with those two colors (brown being my favorite color). I saw someplace where they were called "pool and truffle" but the name quickly changed to TIFFANY & GODIVA (thanks Brooke). We plan on having a ceremony filled with joy and love. One that Sam and I have given alot of thought to and we plan on sharing our moment with many friends and family. And then we going to celebrate, celebrate a new beginning and the most amazing journey called Life as Mr & Mrs Samuel L Bearfield III.
